I am most thankful during this thanksgiving season for the fact that my wife is making my mothers homemade noodle recipe. I helped roll them out, but the real work is all her. Thanksgiving came and went for a few years without the noodles after mom passed away, but it just wasn’t the same. For me, the noodles make everything on the table taste better from the dressing to the potatoes, and especially the turkey, which almost always is dry and bland without them (mostly because I am not a huge fan of turkey anyway).
Noodles are kind of like the Salt that Jesus says that we are to be like. Not only are they wonderful on their own but they have the ability to make everything on the table a little better. We should be a blessing to others on our own but we are also to touch their lives in such a way as to make them better. Our influence is to be positive, and help others to better experience this life that God has given us.
Who would have thought that noodles could inspire such thoughts…and I haven’t even begun to explain the wonderful feelings of nostalgia that come to me when I eat them. they truly help me to remember my mother and the love and care that she put into making such wonderful things on thanksgivings past. She could have purchased noodles…even homemade ones…but she didn’t. She made them, and we loved her for it. Now my wife lovingly pours her time and effort into making them, and I sincerely hope that when my kids are my age they will remember fondly the memories they have of homemade things laced with love.
As I read your story I was reminded of my boys. It took me over two years before I could make cookies without crying. They were not here to lick the beaters and that was always there job.
May your family be blessed this holiday season as you are prayed for each and every day.
