I have retired my winter coat three times now only to have to drag it back out of the closet each time. Enough is enough! Can we get some sunshine already…some lasting sunshine that doesn’t disappear after one or two days. Its a good thing I’m not God or I would make that a reality, whether the flowers and grass need more rain or not.
It seems like there is a lot of things about this world that I would love to change that I can’t. For instance I know some people going through financial difficulty that wouldn’t be if I had anything to say about it, and some others who are sick and in the hospital that don’t at all deserve that in my opinion. There are many hard working people that I know that are out of work or almost out of work, and if I could find jobs for them I would, and while we are at it I’ve noticed in my life that some of the people that I love don’t act in ways that are healthy for them…Let’s just take away their free will so we can demand that they take better care of themselves, eat better, exercise, drop addictions, etc.
Wouldn’t it be great if that would work…Maybe and maybe not. Someone emailed me a story this morning that seems to fit this desire of mine to fix all the little things that are wrong about my life and the lives of those around me.
A daughter is telling her Mother how everything is going wrong, she’s failing algebra, her boyfriend broke up with her and her best friend is moving away.
Meanwhile, her Mother is baking a cake and asks her daughter if she would like a snack, and the daughter says, “Absolutely Mom, I love your cake”
“Here, have some cooking oil,” her Mother offers. “Yuck” says her daughter.
“How about a couple raw eggs?” “Gross, Mom!”
“Would you like some flour then? Or maybe baking soda?” “Mom, those are all yucky!”
To which the mother replies: “Yes, all those things seem bad all by themselves. But when they are put together in the right way, they make a wonderfully delicious cake!
Lots of truth there…maybe rather than fixing people we need to continue to love them and pray that God would complete the recipe that he began in them when they were born. We certainly do have to intervene in peoples lives from time to time to save them from themselves, but we need to make sure our motives are pure and that we do in fact want the best for them, and not just what’s easier for us. So I guess maybe I don’t need to be in charge of everything, especially since I know that my Heavenly father is watching out for me and for anyone who will allow him in, And He probably knows the best time for Spring to happen as well.
