Losing at Softball

I Just had to comment today on what it means to lose a church softball game.  We play in a fellowship league that is coed, and “just for fun”.  I am the chief proponent of the “just for fun” atmosphere of our league, but I am continually amazed that even though we don’t play to win (we bat the full 12 instead of 10 so more can play, and allow lots of kids to play on our team, substitutions are made so everybody gets to play and not to “field the best team”) I still get really annoyed when we lose.  Especially when I know we could have done better.  Especially when I know that I could have done better.

Competition is what makes the game glorious when you win and ridiculous when you lose.  But there is more to the game than just winning or losing.  We hear that all the time but what does it really mean.  For me I am realizing that I need to lose frequently in order to keep the game in perspective, and learn to have fun no matter what the score is.  If the game is only fun when you are winning then you probably won’t play for long.  Every game has its ups and downs, and learning how to have fun regardless, allows the enjoyment of the game to continue.  Life is a lot like that!  There are many ups and downs and learning to enjoy it regardless is what keeps us going day after day.  Add to that frequent visits with the Coach for encouragement and training, and you’ll find that life is good whether you are up a the moment or down.

  1. Had to look up calendar because I was at the ballfield yesterday during church and took a minute to review some of your messages here.
Question What day are you taking off?
