I survived the weekend without my wife…but it wasn’t pretty. Tori attended the Ministry Wives Retreat this past weekend, and had a marvelous time. As she related the stories of her trip I was tempted to think I was listening to one of my kids relating all of the shenanigans that they had gotten into while at a youth event. She discovered things about some of the other pastors wives that truly amazed her, made us both laugh, and made her all the more anxious to get to know them better. For her it was a welcome retreat from the daily grind of five kids and a husband who is too often preoccupied with other things, and I believe it will become a yearly tradition for her.
For me it was a wake up call as I began to realize how much I missed her when she was gone, and how much she adds to our lives that we never even notice. Life is better with Tori around, in so many ways, from the way she quietly works to keep order in the house, by putting things away, and cleaning this and that, to the way she organizes our daily activities so that they run smoothly. I heard the words “When is mommy coming home?” several times during the weekend, and I would quickly reassure them that after church on Sunday Mommy would return, but in my heart I was saying “not soon enough”.
Overall we did ok, no one was lost (for very long), injured seriously, missed any events or activities, or starved to death. We can get along without mom….its just not nearly as much fun! Thanks Honey for all you do!
