More Haiti Connections

I received this from Jennifer Schafer, more updates on Haiti

P.J. This is from the Three Angel Orphanage in Haiti. My friends Rob and Jessica Archer have been in the process of adopting 2 children from there for the past 2 years (Haitian government keeps adding costs to the adoption process). I just wanted to forward this so Floyd could keep all the kids from the orphanage and all the Haitian people in their prayers.

Subject: Haiti Follow up

 Good afternoon,

I have received many phone calls and emails from those of you desiring to help in Haiti. I wanted to update you and let you know that ALL the children at the orphanage are safe. The building has cracks in it and so the children are across the street in a safe location until the building can better be assessed for occupancy.

At this point Three Angels is trying to get a flight into Haiti but with American shut down until further notice we can only rely on Missionary Flights International. We have no further information on the status of our nannies, security guards, headmaster, teachers, translators, nurses, cleaning/cooking employees, grounds keepers and their families. Three Angels is now accepting donation under “Earthquake Relief”. To give you may visit the donation page on-line at www.threeangelshaiti.org or send your checks locally to me at: 2266 E. Mockingbird Lane, Midland, MI 48642. In the memo please write: Earthquake Relief.

I am cutting and copying a needs list I received from Three Angels today:

************************

We have a medical doctor and a structural engineer scheduled to head down there tomorrow if possible to do an exploratory trip. Also, one other person to help with the care of the kids at the orphanage. Second wave of lists, costs and assistance down to Haiti will be disseminated after we get the initial report.

Transportation costs for exploratory team / first wave – $1500 Initial Medical Supplies – dressings, casting supplies, wound care items, cipro, oral rehydration, medications, etc. – $1800 Vehicle – $25,000 Satellite Phone (rental 4 weeks) – $500 Security costs (personnel, rebuild exterior walls, razor wire) – $2000

Three Angels is a well-established 501c3 that has been working effectively in Haiti for the last 8 years. We are unable to bear the financial burden of this disaster. We must have immediate assistance. We are located in a suburb of the densely populated capital, Port au Prince.

The number of missing people involved with or helped by Three Angels is unreal. These are our friends and family.

***********************

Medically we can expand the list to include: Cipro,Keflex, Bactrim, Augmentin, Amoxicillin, Tylenol, Motrin, prescription pain medications (such as Vicodin, Tylenol #3 with codeine), Sterile gauze, sterile gauze wrap, 4 x 4 gauze, gauze wrap, ACE bandages of all sizes, crutches, triple antibiotic ointment/cream, band aids, & wound irrigation solution. For casting supplies we need the following: Webroll (3 & 4 inch), Orthoglass and/or Fiberglass in 3, 4, & 6 inch, stockinets, and either a oscillating cast removal saw or cast removal scissors.

Please add anything to the list you feel we could use but remember only medical & nutritional essentials are needed at this time. Our water tanks have enough fresh water for 9 more days and without relief aid there may not be any fresh water left in the country to purchase. The food pantry is stock for approximately 30 days, that is if the orphanage building doesn’t collapse or we are not robbed. The children are not staying in the orphanage until the building is deemed safe by a structural engineer. They are currently across the street in the neighbors yard.

I want to reiterate Shannon’s last statement from Three Angels. Grace be to God for saving our children and the nannies that were working yesterday but the loss endured by the other staff members and their families is unfathomable. Some will be left with nothing and still have funeral cost to cover for family members. Many themselves may have died and we will need to help with their funeral arrangements.

If you are interested in joining a team to help in Haiti sponsored by Three Angels please continue to follow the Three Angels website. I hope to be on the next wave of volunteers, letting the first responders do what they do best. If one of our mission teams do not work out for you or is full please consider volunteering with another organization. The entire country will be in need of help.

Please forward this email to anyone or any team members I missed.

Thank you for your continued support of the people of Haiti and Three Angels Children’s Relief.

I will leave you with a portion of a blog from Heartline Ministries:

Taken from the Livesay blog ; written by Tara, (they are American missionaries that live in Haiti) “The horror has only just begun and I beg you to get on your knees I truly mean ON YOUR KNEES and pray for the people of this country. The news might forget in a few days – but people will still be trapped alive and suffering. Pray……..PLEASE PRAY.

Our contacts at the United Nations say that the destruction is worse than one could ever imagine………….

Thank you,

Jennifer Jordahl
